چکیده

Reactions in scCO2 are frequently limited by the low polarity of the solvent. This may result in low solute/ product solubility or low catalyst activity. The use of more polar sc fluids such as difluoromethane (HFC 32) can circumvent many of these issues and facilitate reactions that are not possible in CO2. We demonstrate the use of HFC 32 for three types of reaction; an esterification reaction, a Friedel Crafts alkylation and the polymerisation of olefins. The extent of each reaction is monitored using a dielectometry technique and solution dielectric constants are used to explain unusual observations in reaction rate and product distribution. It is shown that reactions can be tuned more effectively in HFC 32 than CO2 due to the larger changes in polarisability and hydrogen bonding with pressure. It is, however, shown that in reactions where high solute solubility is observed in both fluids the reaction is unaffected by the solvent and that the clustering of reagent molecules affects the reaction dynamics.

Electrodeposition of metals from supercritical fluids.

Electrodeposition is a widely used materials-deposition technology with a number of unique features, in particular, the efficient use of starting materials, conformal, and directed coating. The properties of the solvent medium for electrodeposition are critical to the technique's applicability. Supercritical fluids are unique solvents which give a wide range of advantages for chemistry in gener...

High Solute Solubility and Emulsion Formation in Supercritical Hydrofluorocarbon Solvents

Supercritical (sc) CO2 is by far the most commonly used supercritical fluid. Reasons for this are that it is inexpensive, non-toxic, has low critical constants (Tc = 304.20 K, Pc = 72.8 bar) and is environmentally benign. The major problem encountered when using sc CO2 is the low solubility of polar solutes. Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) solvents such as difluoromethane (HFC 32) and 1,1,1,2-terafluor...

Phase behaviour and conductivity of supporting electrolytes in supercritical difluoromethane and 1,1-difluoroethane.

We present investigations into a variety of supporting electrolytes and supercritical fluids probing the phase and conductivity behaviour of these systems and show that they not only provide sufficient electrical conductivity for an electrodeposition bath, but match the requirements imposed by the different precursors and process parameters, e.g. increased temperature, for potential deposition ...

Accelerating electrostatic pair methods on graphical processing units to study molecules in supercritical carbon dioxide.

Traditionally, electrostatic interactions are modelled using Ewald techniques, which provide a good approximation, but are poorly suited to GPU architectures. We use the GPU versions of the LAMMPS MD package to implement and assess the Wolf summation method. We compute transport and structural properties of pure carbon dioxide and mixtures of carbon dioxide with either methane or difluoromethan...

A Versatile Precursor System for Supercritical Fluid Electrodeposition of Main-Group Materials.

For the first time, a versatile electrolyte bath is described that can be used to electrodeposit a wide range of p-block elements from supercritical difluoromethane (scCH2 F2 ). The bath comprises the tetrabutylammonium chlorometallate complex of the element in an electrolyte of 50×10(-3)  mol dm(-3) tetrabutylammonium chloride at 17.2 MPa and 358 K. Through the use of anionic ([GaCl4 ](-) , [I...
